Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

They both have very dark eyes. I read above they're supposed to have Bay eyes? I'm new to chickens in general so I love finding new info on all my breeds
Eye color will change when they get older. Eye color is also an easy fix if you pair with a bird with correct color eyes.

I had the same question as mine have the dark eyes as well..I read that they are cross breeds when their eyes aren't orange/bay?? Is this true? If so, it sucks because I paid good money for my "pure bred" Marans...

No.... not true.

Good to know. I'll keep an "eye" on them as they get older

In my experience, there will still be a percentage of darker eyed birds after breeding to a bird with correct colored eyes. Yes the eyes are correct on some but not 100% in the first generation.

No? Then it is just a recessive trait? Thank goodness!
It's what they call "over-melanized" and it is often combined with little to no copper on females and black skin on the legs. It's just one of the many faults that crop up with Marans that careful breeders have to deal with.
