Blue Egg Layers from University of Arkansas

I forgot I had some of these in our own incubator. I took a photo, but have no time to download until tonight. Will post here and in post #1 when I download. Will also post the bird photos in post #1 when I get them from Dr. Bramwell.

Since these breed like Andulusian Blue, there are 3 colors: Black, Blue and Splash. I am guessing the Blacks and Splashes would breed true without the Blue.

Commercial blue egg layers will not happen. They do not candle very well. I worked for six years on a production blue egg layer. The Leghorns I used contained genes that lighten the blue egg color to the point they were almost white. I could not get a descent blue color on the eggs. The university may be producing them for the back yard.

Will not happen? Ever seen brown eggs in the grocery store? Commercially produced brown eggs are pretty dark from some of the commercial Bovan Browns (Sex links). I know from experience they are not easy to candle either but they have made there way into mainstream egg production. Just saying.......

Our local Whole Foods carries carton upon carton of blue eggs. Granted they aren't a rich blue color, but they are certainly blue.
