Hi guys! (I'm new here so I don't really know what I'm doing yet!)
I am getting some leg bar crosses, very soon! I already have a small flock of 4. Is there anything to watch out for? I've never introduced different birds to each other. All I know is you have to keep them separated (like with chicken mesh). And it's best to do it in the evening as they go to roost together? Any other tips? Thanks guys!
You can't just throw new birds in with an established flock or there will be chaos. And sneaking them in during the night does not work either. Chickens are way too smart for that. LOL Keep the new birds in a cage or on the other side of a fence but always within the flock for several weeks. That way everybody sees, nobody touches. This allows the original flock to keep control of the pecking order and establish the rules to the new group but with out touching. After a few weeks, when you mix them all together, there should be minimal if any aggression. Of course always watch the first week and intervene if it turns bloody.
Good luck with your new birds and if you have any other questions, that is what we are here for!
