I notice my new quail lay throughout the day, mostly in the early afternoon....except one. Whichever lays the blue eggs always lays at night. Is this unusual?

Are these Coturnix quail? Blue eggs are not all that common, but some do lay blue, purplish or even greenish eggs. The color variance is great with Coturnix quail. Age, weather, feed, and other factors can cause them to lay these colors.

Enjoy the blue eggs!

I get lavender eggs occasionally, for no good reason. Each bird has their own spot markings that the produce, so I'm guessing it comes from one hen. I usually get them at the dark phase of the moon. I also get white eggs at the full moon.....
