Blue/green eggs from Polish???

Well, my polish girls lay eggs that have a distinctive shape as compared to my other birds. They are the same shape as the four eggs above.

No doubt about it... you have an EE Polish!

I have bantam EE's that lay pointy eggs as well as my Polish. I have never gotten an off colored egg from my Polish, they are all whites except the mixes. I would isolate Raven and see what happens. I actually think a blue egg laying Polish would be cool but I have enough project already, lol.

So...have you figured out how that super-sneaky stealth EE of yours is getting those green eggs in your Polish house??

Or has Zsa Zsa laid you a green egg?

Mahonri, my Lav Ameraucanas lay an egg shaped like the ones TurtleFeathers posted, too. My bantam Polish do, too, but I don't think it's necessarily a trait of just the Polish. At least, not around here.

Anything is possible...but what I want to know is, if it is the little Polish laying the green eggs, how far back could the green egg gene be and still pop up? If there is something in the parent bird's ancestry, it had to be way, way far back.

Here's pics of the birds in the pen that Zsa Zsa came from:

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday - I had a funeral to attend

Anyway, I isolated Zsa Zsa yesterday morning - no eggs from her yet, as of a few minutes ago. I gave Raven a pretty severe wing clip at the same time, because I was in a hurry to get ready for the funeral, and didn't have another area set up in which to isolate her. I figured that would at least temporarily alleviate the fence hopping problem, and if it IS Zsa Zsa laying that green egg, at least SHE was separated.

When we got home yesterday evening, it was dark and I went straight out and locked everyone up before I even changed out of my dress clothes. Found out that heels aren't the best footwear for wandering around in chicken pens! LOL! So, I counted heads the best I could, but I was freezing, so I just locked up and went inside.

I overslept this morning, so I ran out there in my pj's and crocks to let everyone out - when I opened the Polish house, Raven was the first one out of the pop door! Jeeze.... Guess she made a liar outa me - I've NEVER seen her anywhere NEAR that house, and here she spent the whole night in there!!! Not to mention, she has NO FLIGHT FEATHERS whatsoever from the clipping I gave her yesterday morning - and I did BOTH wings, as opposed to the single wing clip I normally do. But she somehow managed to get over that fence!!! I guess she's more determined than I thought! I'm seriously thinking of changing her name to "Slick" - seems more appropriate!

But there were no eggs in the Polish house this morning - so Zsa Zsa is still in the running for the green egg. I'm on my way out to set up something in the garage for Raven right now. I'll get some pics while I'm out there.

Now I'm wishing I had done all this isolating stuff BEFORE posting about this here - because when Zsa Zsa lays a white egg, and Raven lays a green one, I'm going to look like a fool for even THINKING it could be the other way around!!! LOL!!!! Guess I just wanted to know if it was even possible. Its GOT to be Raven - I don't see HOW, but its GOT to be... But if it IS Zsa Zsa, its got to come from WAY far back in her lines (as you said Maria) - so why would it pop up now? Guess we better cross that bridge when we get to it... *IF* we get to it...

Oh, and Maria - that chocolate cuckoo roo is AWESOME!!!! And you say he's related to Zsa Zsa? And possibly my WC khaki cuckoo hen? Cool!!!

Sorry about the funeral.

It sounds like Raven is one determined little bird!

You're right, I think "Slick" might be more appropriate...

I think that the chocolate cuckoo roo is Zsa Zsa's daddy--though I can't remember if I had chicks from both of my bantam pens when I sold you the two. If she's from my black/blue pen, her daddy is the roo in my avatar/farm logo. Your cuckoo roo is definitely from the two birds whose pictures I posted above, though. I love that chocolate cuckoo roo. He is so cool.

And he did come from the same farm your khaki cuckoo came from, I'm pretty sure...though I got him from someone else (he's been around

). I can't wait to get khaki cuckoos, I love that color!

Well, the plot thickens....

No eggs from Zsa Zsa this morning. No eggs from Raven either. Both are segregated from the flock in the garage, separate from each other.

No eggs in the Polish house this morning. I counted heads last night, and made SURE nobody but Polish chickens were in that house.

However, I found a blue green egg in the COCHIN house this morning, buried under some shavings and cold. All but one of my cochins are WAY to young to lay. The one at the point of lay is Rosie, pictured in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=269218. I seriously doubt its her. Raven may have laid that egg in the cochin house yesterday before I put her in the garage, when I looked for her egg in the Polish house - OR, someone else may have gotten into the cochin house and laid that egg while Raven was in the garage.

Either way, Zsa Zsa and Raven will stay in the garage at least thru the weekend. I may leave Zsa Zsa in there until she DOES lay tho - just to be sure. And I'll set up another area for Rosie, just to see what color egg she lays.

I think what it all boils down to is that I've got at least one, possible two, EE hens that aren't content to lay their eggs in their own house!!! And if its not Raven, I WILL catch whoever it is, sooner or later! LOL! But I'll certainly let y'all know what color eggs Zsa Zsa and Rosie lay while they're in the garage!

Thanks for talking me thru this! Looks like I'm going to need higher fences between pens...
