Ok so my chicks are still to young to be called chickens lol but they where in the front yard scratching and I seen a blue jay chase away a hawk that was heading toward my chicks just thought I share this story I seen it this morning and if I didn't see it I never would have belived it

Awesome that the Jay chased the hawk away. Many birds will band together and chase a hawk away. The Jay was acting in her own best interests, not really protecting your chicks! I have a pair of robins that give hawk alert, and a family of crows that chase away the hawks. Unfortunately, I watched a crow kill a newly fledged robin baby last week. That poor Mama has raised 2 broods of babies, and has yet to have a single survivor. It's a balancing act: leave the crows to chase off the hawks, or shoot the crows so the robins have a bit of a chance to raise some babies.

New chicken farmer here (been at it almost 3 months now but I still feel really new at it) My chickies will be 3 months old on July 7th!! I definitely have ONE ROOSTER. The Banty`s are still questionalble. My (definite) rooster finally found his "voice" and is a pretty good attention getter with his crowing. He still doesn`t really do it [at the correct times]. He is more like a watch dog. He crows at me and when the neighbors pull into the driveway. I just love him!! He is something red....like a Rhode Island Red maybe. I have a hen (pullet I guess, since she is still a `teenager') and today Haus tried to MOUNT HER!!! He pulled feathers out of her neck and everything!! Then she went inside the coop and wouldn`t come out! Should he be doing that already?? I have Haus then 2 Black Star Pullets, and 2 Banty`s plus my red pullet. The red pullet is the only one he bothers. Do I need to do anything?
