Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I am new to this forum & to blrw. I have been reading posts for some time now but not sure I am doing this right. I am wondering if the color of the chicks give any indication of what color they will eventually be? I only have 2 chicks to compare but one had a black stripe down its back when it hatched & the other had a more blueish stripe. They are 2 weeks old now & both have a blueish tint but 1 more so than the other. It seems every blrw chick looks different so I don't know if this is an individual difference or a color difference. Do they all have a bluish tint as chicks?

PIctures?

Those are Splash laced Red.

Hi, I have a some BLRW and I am wanting some opinions on breeding. I only have one pullet left, all my others have been killed. I have 3 roosters and am trying to figure out which ones to get rid of and who to keep. I dont know anything about breeding BLRW, this is my first batch.

My daughter named this one chippy and that is the lone hen.

I would use your blue rooster over that splash hen. Splash on Splash is going to make them more golden. Good Luck!!

What makes her a splash?? I thought she was a blue!!
if they carry 2 copies of the blue gene, they're splash. it's a dilution gene, so 1 copy dilutes black to blue, 2 copies dilutes it even further.

but the dilution also has an effect on the red, making dark red appear more golden, if you bred too often with splash and not going back to a nice deep dark red (blue or black laced) now and then.

breeding blue to splash, you'll get 50/50. if you breed blue to blue, you'll get 25% black, 50% blue and 25% splash. splash to splash, you get 100% splash (with washed out looking red)

Duramaxgirl she is kind of light. I'll have to look up splash hens and try to compare because I dont know for sure.

Ki4got than you for the info it was very helpful. I have a black the lady i got them from told me i would want to use to darken the blue. We shall see she hasn't started laying yet.

This is a splash pullet the roo is DARK blue. I would think your girl is a splash too..... If you had a black roo or the blue, but not the splash. Even if she is light blue with a splash all the chicks would probably look splash.
