Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Good Morning All,
(please forgive my complete lack of knowledge about BLRW coloring....)

Got a BLRW question. I'm hoping to get a couple of these little beauties this spring. I have 2 SLW and love how funny they are - stocky little egg machines!
Correct me where I'm wrong, but as I understand it, the breeding for these is a little tricky in that it involves Blue/Black/Splash (somehow) and that chicks could turn out to be either mostly red with blue lacing or mostly white with red lacing or somewhere in between. ... that's not very clear.... I'll see if I can find some pictures.
Anyway - my question is: Is it possible to tell who will end up with which coloring? And how young can you tell?
I would like very much to get a couple of the 'mostly white w/ red lacing' which (I think) means there was a splash roo?????
actually, the lacing color is what's on the outside edge of the feather, not the inside... so you'd have blue black or splash laced red...
the first and last pics are splash laced reds, the middle is a blue laced. so if you always want 100% blue laced, you'd have to breed a black laced to a splash laced, as blue is the heterozygous form (blue carries only 1 copy of the blue gene, splash carries 2 copies, black none).

the trick tho isn't having the bbs, but making sure you have the darkest reds possible. blue is the easy part if at long as at least 1 bird is either blue or splash laced.

to get the splash, would involve either blue-blue or blue-splash or splash-splash breeding... and it doesn't matter who has which coloring since it's not sexlinked... the silver laced does involve sex linkages, but you wouldn't want to breed them with the blue laced red since it'd be a while before you get a nice dark red with splash.

LOL - every time one of these questions pop into my head, it seems that you're the one who answers it. Thank you. I should stop tossing them out onto the forums and just PM you.

i've done a write-up on poultry genetics, trying ot organize it so it's more easily understandable for the average chicken keeper... it's linked in my sig btw...

Has anyone seen this coloration? I've got a pullet thats got a golden head but "Lucky" is really different.

Is that suppose to be a BLRW? If it is .....interesting???? I can't wait for the professionals to get on here to tell me what is going on with this chick.. Never seen one like that??
