Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Anyone has some BLRW hatching eggs. I am setting a few CCL x Red Star eggs with a broody and would not like to waste this opportunity. I will be happy with even 4-6. Preference is Splash x Black but will be happy with Blue x Blue or Splash x Blue.

Thanks!

Quote: These 3 pullets look like great breeding material.
Very goodlooking chestlacing and I like their type.
Why wouldn't you use the splash hens in breeding?
The rooster looks great in his lacing and body mass, but I would like to see some more tail on him.
Or not necessary 'more' but the angle in between his back and tail can be sharper.
Nevertheless, you got some lovely birds!

Just was out admiring my Foley girls(hatched 3/24/14) as always patiently waiting for them to start laying me some eggs. I my new Foley cockerels will be here in 5 more days! I'm so excited.

I also picked up a trio of Duane Urch Wyandottes yesterday, excuse their dirtyness as I come home last lastnight and took the pics early this am.

Thank you! I am absolutely in love with them, BLRW are by far my most favorite color/breed combination. I think they are stunning to look at

I have noticed neither of my roosters has very full tails at all. They just haven't grown in... I'm not sure why that is. I hope that his back angle will improve as his tail fills out closer to 12 months? he is 8mos right now. When he lays down you can see a better tail angle, a small and short back, leading up to the tail slope. definitely something to keep an eye on

as for the splash, I read or was told that blue x blue will create the most uniform blue color in the offspring, while blue x splash might result in varying shades of blue. eg some light blue, some true blue. I am very open to feedback on that, I am still learning about breeding :)

wow, you have so many beautiful blue females, I am so jealous of your birds! I will be drooling over these pics for a while....
and I cannot wait to see the cockerels in 5 days :)

your new WWs look great too, especially in the 2nd photo - wow great type!

Thanks, the WW are so dirty in pic from being crammed in the carrier for the long ride home. I will take better pics in a few days and share when they get fluffed all back out. They were more interested in eating than letting me take pics so it was hard to get them standing nicely to show their type.

I breed blue laced silver Wyandotte bantams for almost 4 years now and from my experience , the blue color is just something where you need that little bit of luck.
First year I only used a blue laced silver rooster and silver laced hens.
The second and third year I tried the same combination + blue laced silver rooster x blue laced silver hens + silver laced rooster x blue laced silver hens.
Now was the first year I tried a splash laced silver hen with a silver laced rooster and I wasn't disappointed in the result.
Every year I had all the possible varieties in blue you can imagine.
The lightest looking birds I had came out of blue x blue.
So far, the best looking blue came out of silver laced x blue laced silver.
That can be a coincidence, or not...
I would certainly give it a shot with your 2 splash hens.
You can keep the offspring separated from the blue x blue chicks and see how they grow out.

That is very interesting, thank you so much! You have given me a lot to think about and I would really like to have 3 hens worth of eggs to set, instead of just 1. I have multiple roosters of multiple breeds though, so I will have the BLRW in their own separate breeding pen. I'm not sure how I could track the blue x blue offspring, since all their eggs look the same.. maybe with trap nesting? I don't have trap nests right now, but could probably build them.

some of the lacing on the back towards the tail of my 2 splash hens starts to fade out, it isn't as bold as the chest lacing - I will look for a photo of their backs

edit:
here is one -

what do you think? this is the worse one, the other splash has slightly darker lacing on her back
