Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Hi guys, I'm new to the thread but I've greatly admired the beauty of this breed for several years and finally got one a few weeks ago. She is hatchery stock, and just an egg-laying lawn ornament pet for me (no showing, no breeding, no impact on the breed's gene pool), so I am not too concerned with the finer points, but I was wondering if you guys could help me determine what color she will turn out to be. I was really hoping for light blue or splash, which obviously she is not--the only question now I think is dark blue or black, right? We will keep her regardless--I'm just too curious to wait, and it will help us decide on a name for her.

Here she is at 3 weeks--her hackle and breast feathers look pretty black, but some of her wingtips and tail feathers are lighter:

2 weeks

...and day old.

Thanks!

Hey there,

I have 5 blrw. What sex do you think they are? I was supposed to get 3 hens and 1 rooster (extra thrown in). They are 3 months old. Thanks

I have 2 blacks and 2 dark blue. Yours looks dark blue to me but I'm no expert.

Thanks, lizzychick and lakones! That's a 50/50 split, which is about how I'm feeling looking at her color (conflicted). I've looked at as many BLRW chick pics as I could find to try to decide which she is, and I have no clear conclusion. She was sooo dark as a day old that I was sure she'd be black, but I feel like her wing feathers especially are coming in not quite true black--I don't know if that's a real sign or not.

I'd say black . :)

Anyone want to venture a guess on the sex of this one? It is about 4 month old and towers above the others. I am pretty sure it cockerel, but he seems to have the all-over laced patters with no real different in color in the saddle/hackle..

This is "him" next to another one from the same clutch. You can see how much bigger he is these pictures.
Thicker legs...more angles stance.

The splash is male, and the dark blue a female :)
