Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Hmmmm. That's not how I understood the genetics worked.
black x blue = 50% each black & blue
blue x blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
splash x blue = 50% each blue and splash
splash x black = 100% blue.

when i said produced from these dark blues i meant breeding blue to blue.
so if you breed your blues to black, that helps keep the blues nice and dark. when you breed darker blues together, you tend to get more colorful splashes. and if those more colorful splashes are bred to black, you should, in turn, go back to nice dark blues.
That's what Im talking about. Breeding the nice Splash to the Blacks to get the desired blues. Those splash hens sure are pretty though. I like the lighter colors better than the dark colors. But I understand the majority doesn't.

I don't keep splash usually because I didn't have a need for splash. I now have a Black LRW roo so I need my splash pullet for him. Blue to Blue give the best color.... nice even color supposedly. Blue to Black would be my second choice if I had to pick. I like the DARK blue best.

Splash LRW are very popular too... people just love them, easy to sell as chicks.

They are easy to sell. We still get about 90% blue/black and 10% splash from our BLRW and they are ALL blue.

I'm going to guess maybe it's because the splash tends to wash out the red color and it's harder to get that deep mahogany on the splash birds for that reason...?
You are correct..Mahogany is hard to keep and achieve. The splash is beautiful and it might be necessary to eventually use in a black breeding program, but, the dilution will only promote a buff looking bird eventually in your lines. Consistency is what you are after.

Hello everyone!
looking for a few BLR chicks, anyone have extras they are selling? No splash or black though, please. I'm in north eastern pa, can drive if local, or have shipped. Thanks!
