Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

i like your boy's lacing but agree his back seems a tad long... but like Countrypunk said, he's still young so that may change.

i found this pic while surfing... thought it might help give a visual for what the topline on a wyandotte should look like.
Ki4got, Thank you so much for the diagram. I'm a visual person ( you know, show me don't tell me !! ) So this is a great help !

Well doing splash on splash isnt recommeneded. All you would get is splash and the colora will start to fade and dilute even worse
With him and splash you will get a viariary. With him being so dark it is a good thing. Will give better shades of blue in the offspring . And the back thing, even if his back, put him with a hen with a better back and it would breed out. But still if he is your best roo, use him till you find a better one and keep him as a back up

Woot. I just got 25 bantam BLRW eggs today. They originated from Ruth Bloch's line in Germany. I had one pullet I hatched last year that I lost. She was the best that I've seen, imho. I also got pictures of my LF. I just need to see how they turned out.

Quote: no prob... i edited the photo i found, as the text was barely readable. so i made it a bit bigger and fixed the text. but pleased to say my bantam boy fits this image to a T, and his girl is pretty close too, type wise. if anything the hen's red is a bit lighter than i'd like to see, with a bit of shafting, but he's much darker than she is, so it's a workable issue. but in any breed, IMO, breed for type first, and worry about fixing the color later.

These are not the best pictures, but they are at least pictures. These are not my favorite looking BLRW. One is half the size of the other as well. They were taken in the evening with a flash.

Candled last night. 7 of 10 DMRippy's BLRW eggs are growing! I received the return email from Jerry Foley and will be getting a 7 month old pair next week!

He also offered me a splash pullet of the same age. I was trying to breed for blues and understand splash throw splash and blues. Any thoughts on the splash? Do you think It would dilute the color of the blues I'm going for?

Well my drama today, I noticed my Splash Pullet from Foley had some feathers hanging down her leg, totally out of place. I thought the roo might have broken her wing..... NOOOOOO he had cut a HUGE gash in her side and I never saw it
he.gif
It had already dried up and started to heal. I have no idea when it happened. I have been working on eggs for 3 days and hubby has been feeding them
barnie.gif
She seems to be ok. We cut the dangling skin and feathers off
sickbyc.gif
It didn't look infected so I just left it alone and MOVED her to a pen so she can rest. DANG ROO
somad.gif
I am going to give her some vitamins too, but I don't know of anything else to do for her.

I had an EE roo that did something similar to a hen, she recovered ok. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future?
