Well, chicks never ship cheap. The box to ship alone costs $10. I don't know anyone who would be able to ship chicks for under $40. If you don't care too much about the quality, Murray McMurray Hatchery sells them but they used golden laced Wyandottes to speen production. That causes brassiness that is very hard to get rid of. The red on these is supposed to be red - not buff. Anyway, to answer your question another way, you should check out the 24 and 48 hour hatching threads. There were six eggs listed on there this afternoon with $12 shipping and the eggs were at $6 the last I looked. It's very expensive to get nice ones usually. My pullets were$25 each and the chicks I'm getting were $8.50 each. Ouch!
