I am not a genetics expert by any means. If I took a black rooster from bbs breeding could I use him to improve type in mottleds and choclates or would I need to find a roo from black to black breeding? Just curious if id get blue mottleds and mauves occasionally or if he'd act genetically as any black and just give me splits?

I am not an expert either but I do know that a BBS black would have a 1-blue gene trait that may show up. Either way as long as you breed the off spring back to mottles I would think it would breed back out. I know several people that use a chicken color calculator on some website to come up with info on their projects. I have never looked for it or used it but May help if you find it.

Thanks for the info! If I found the calculator I doubt I could figure out how to use it lol I know so little about chicken genetics!

Aw, cute babies! Mine are due to hatch April 8th, can't wait! So you don't get any splash with that cross?

no Splash on Black is 100% blue
there is a few from a blue hen so may have a few splash
