I have a blue splash calico baby, 3 weeks old now. It is a beautiful bird, what colors would I be able to breed this with in the future to keep that calico color going? I know it is a project color, but I’m not sure what colors would mix well with this. Any info is appreciated :)

From what I know I would stay with the blue color family. My knowledge though is very limited in this area. Would love to see a photo of your little beauty though!😊

Thanks so much!!! I’m trying to keep the calico coming through, and I wasn’t sure if they do that by mixing a buff for partridge?

She looks like a splash! Definitely stay in the blue family. Read up on blue/ black/splash genetics. Photo of my splash pullet! Not sure how you would get that buff coloring to enhance.

Calico in silkies is a fancy made up name for splash or grey silkie with autosomal red leakage, a sneaky tactic to popularize what most would actually call a cull.. If you can get your hand on a red (not buff) that can be used in your breeding program. first generation will be blue with red leakage, breed back to the splash and you will get blue and splash with red leakage. Otherwise look for someone already selling blue or splash birds with red leakage
