Blue vs. Splash Ameraucana chicks.

Is there a trick to telling blue from splash in 2 day old Ameraucanas?

Will they just be lighter or darker grey? I had a splash Marans chick once that was almost white, so I was expecting the same.

Some of my chicks were from 2 splash parents, so I know they are indeed splash, but they look so similar at this point.

Any pointers are appreciated.

Would You Say This Is A Splash Ameraucana? I just hatched this beautiful chick yesterday and it was from an assortment of eggs. This beauty hatched from a light brown egg.

chick is too dark overall to be a splash. It may be blue, but the color is a bit off from my blue chicks....

So i just got 3 bbs ameraucanas and i cant tell if any are splash or blue.

im pretty sure this one is black

But these two are confusing me

Looks like you have a black and 2 blues from what I can see from my phone.

Late to the thread but didn’t see any of this, so thought I would add some pics and notes.

Splash Ameraucana are often white based with yellow. Marans splash are like a very light grey, no yellow. Ameraucana should have the cheeks and muffs. Marans do not. Marans have the feathered feet, but not always. Ameraucana don’t have feathered feet, as a rule, but an abnormal gene could pass on a tiny bit of hair on the feet.

Blue is a completely different look to splash. Even a very light blue cannot be mistaken for splash. The tones are completely different when they dry out.

3. Blue Copper Marans
4. Black Copper Marans

I find that my BCM often have more white around the face than any BCM, if there is anything notable. And BCM white areas are very white while the BbCM can be muted white, blue shades, and even some yellow mixed.
