Bluest Egg?

Which chicken lays the bluest egg? Blue Americana have a bluish green egg but are light in color, maybe a light blue green mint pastel look. Will the Blue Wheaton Americauna be bluer?

Based off pictures I've seen legbars seem to lay really blue eggs. But I can't say for sure because I have never owned one.

Finally found someone with cream legbars within a 2 hour drive. They are due to hatch next Friday and we will ne notified if there are any pullets. Also contacted the Crested Cream Legbar club in the UK. They are working on getting the pure breed here. Most in the US aren't true to breed according to them. They say95% being sold on ebay aren't crested cream legbars. Difficult to find and are expensive.

I know cream legbar eggs are very blue, I have also heard of something called a sapphire something? I don't know much about them but my guess is that their eggs would be pretty blue.

Murray McMurray is now also promoting a breed they call the Whiting True Blue. They're out of chicks last I knew, but it seems worth monitoring their site for future availability.

It's not the breed, it's the particular line of the breed. (Ameraucanas, Araucanas, Legbars) My Legbars lay a true, pastel blue and my Blue wheaten Ameraucana lays a more saturated true blue, but much less often. Some of the newer Reese line Legbars, and many Ameraucana lines lay eggs with more green.

The true show breeders will work on type and form first, and egg color later. Some people do cull heavily for egg color though, but their birds may not be as close to SOP.

All depends on what is most important to you.

Thanks for all the info. Breeding for the egg makes sense too. The blues we have in the bator vary in size quite a bit. A large blue egg producer would be more desirable than a small blue egg producer.
