Sorry for taking so long for the next update. My silkie hatch this year yielded five silkies and four of them were cocks. The pen, which also had Napoleon my promising BlCM cockerel, had too much testosterone in it!

Yesterday I made a small section of my layer’s pen into my first bacherlor’s pen, so the boys can live happily until I find new homes for them without harming each other or the hens. Three funky looking silkies and Napoleon got moved in, I kept the best looking silkie in the silkie pen. I’ll post pictures of this guy soon.

The darker red Pyle is Dusty, the lighter one is Tangerine, the blue one is Sparrow. Sparrow looked like a little house sparrow as a chick so that’s why he got his name.

They all made it clear that they weren’t happy with the move, even if they got more space!

Brought eight new chickens home today, 4 white leghorns and 4 leghorn/legbar crosses. 18 weeks old so finally some young hens in my layers pen to turn out a profit (once they break even from the cost of buying them). Nothing out of the ordinary but hopefully will get some nice blue/green eggs to post pictures of.
Congrats on your new additions. Blues and greens in the egg basket is always a bonus.

Sparrow is pretty cool looking. I like his coloring.

Finally have a chicken in every pen laying. I’m getting 10-16 eggs a day at the moment, just bought four leghorn and four leghorn/legbar cross pullets so in about two weeks I’ll start having over two dozen a day likely.

I’m glad to have all the egg colours back, hopefully some of the new pullets lay greener eggs as well as blue. Since the legbars in the marans pen are laying, I should get chance to hatch some mars bars this year, as well as various other olive eggers from the mixed layers pen.

That's a lovely display of colors... ♥️

First hatch of the year goes:
Under Speedy: four silkies and three olive eggers

Under Marshmallow: six cuckoo marans (English type) and two blue coppers (French type, from Chanel cross to Loki). Also a Brahma egg in case Blue decides to be fertile this year!

Due the first of May.
Hope you have great hatches and looking forward to more pics.
