Some pictures showing the difference in shade between the two silkies. I’m not sure if Desmond is a pale blue, dark splash or lavender, I guess I’ll have to see.

While I love the lavender colour I’m hoping for a blue so I can take him/her to the winter Poultry shows. Talulah has a single comb so isn’t show quality. It’s an annoying recessive trait in my silkies and must have been introduced when the lavender gene was bred in before I got them. If Talulah’s a pullet I might try to sell her off with Sparrow, the blue cockerel from last year, who also has a single comb.

I am not a silkie person, but they are damn adorable 🥰

The two cuckoos, unfortunately not joined by more yet. The first is a boy, based on that big white spot on his head. The other just has a faint spot so is probably a pullet. So at least I got a pair of them, and I’m picking up the others from a different breeder in June.

(just in the feed bucket for transport). All three of Chanel’s eggs hatched, and are all blacks.
All quite dark faced chicks, but no head spots. Really looking forward to having some black copper hens that are well bred (don’t have yellow legs like Natasha). And if one’s a boy and stands out, I might keep him and turn the GCM project into a four clan system, breeding him to one of the cuckoo lines.

I’ve got plenty of growers this time (the last bags from the shop) so hopefully they’ll get a good growing season and lay through the winter.

I saw this picture of the DCM pullet and thought she looked like a mole. So I think that’s what I’m naming her, Mole. I’m going with themes for the boys, girls can be named randomly.

The cockerel is (the Duke of) Wellington, opposing Napoleon from the French line. If I get another DCM cockerel he will be (Admiral Lord) Nelson.
