My girls love to dust while free ranging. I kept finding dusting holes in the oddest places with a 'tunnel' in the center of it. Turns out they were uncovering baby ground moles in their nests and yuckin' 'em up! Here I thought it was the cats...silly me!
Sure Ozark hen, look under chick pics at 23 days. Me my chickens and Family. I hope my babies will be mousers, even though it is sick.
Funny cat/mouse story: My Mom's cat liked to play fetch with toy mice and brought her one in the middle of the night. She would not leave Mom alone. Mom reached down, the cat dropped the mouse in her hand, (you guessed it!) It was a dead mouse. Yuck. I told Mom that there is no higher compliment a cat can give her owner, but it didn't help. And the cat did not get to play fetch that night! eewww
A chicken will eat ANYTHING. When bucthing, i give my dog some of the bones, Bam ( our oldest hen)will come right up and get her share. If it is a small bone she will try to take it away from the dog.
You want to see something really funny. when you find some of the mouse holes in the dirt in your coop. get all your chickens in there and shove a garden hose in the mouse hole and turn in on. Stand back because mice will run everywhere to keep from drounding but the chick chase is on. It won't last but about 30 seconds but man is it fun to watch. Next time around I'm getting out the video camera, look out you-tube!!
