Would love some feedback on culling decisions on my NH. They hatched Oct. 15th, 2012 so are still pretty young. I lucked out with straight run chicks and got 5 cockerals and 8 pullets. Originally got them as I wanted to get a nice pullet or two for a project with my Delawares but have fallen totally in love with them so 2 -3 cockerals will stay and the best of the pullets.
Thinking this will be my top boy but not sure about the tail feathers hanging down? His development for this age seems quite amazing compared to his bros.


Like this boy too but he is not nearly as developed as my #1. Also, his tail looks more like the pullets, is this ok?



Thinking this boy is a cull, pretty scrawny and a funny hook on back of comb.

Well, I guess I only got pics of 4, the 5th guy is pretty narrow/scrawny as well. I have read that the slower developers may end up being bigger birds, should I give them all more time??

Now for a few of the pullets. The pics all are a little blurry, not sure why, took them in the sunlight this eve. The first poor girl got locked up with the cockerals a week ago for 2 days before I realized she was a girl. I plucked them off the roost at night to put in the boys growout pen and her comb is/was twice the size of her sisters.

Are these worth working with or back to just the original Delaware Project? Thanks for any/all advise!

Its raining its pouring.... and I can't sleep. So here are pics of my new silver penciled rock chicks parents are from Dick HORSTMAN- about a week old, thanks to my local byc friend La Palma Chicks... they are soo cute and getting along fine with the cochins and buff orp babies

Frank told me there was no secret feed or treatment befor he butchered them He said he breeds them for taste. Never heard of that but why should I question a fellow who gets about $40. for a dressed chicken to a Organic Cook. Does anyone have a favorite receipt for pre butcher chickens to make them taste better?

Ummm... How exactly do you breed them for taste?  I mean, once you realize it tastes good, isn't it a little late for breeding from that bird? 

LOL. I kind of thought of that too. But I'm sure the tasty ones come from a tasty line, you know? Different birds do have different flavor, after all. So far my favorite was a part English Orpington. WOW he tasted good. I'm so glad he wasn't worth keeping otherwise. hehe.

I can't find the post. Can anyone help me out? It might have been yard full o' rocks or catdaddyfro or?

Purina Honor Show Chow- Broiler is a decent finisher as it has a nice fat content for weight gain etc. too.

That wasn't the name. It was somehtign like Fit and Extreme. I appreciate this brand name! I am going over now to check it out.
