That's so awesome! I think we were late planting our sunflowers as only one is growing!!?? Wow, that iphone does a good job taking photographs! I'm impressed!
Since you live in Southern CA they will just be late for harvest.

That is the Beauty of living there--Crazy long growing season.

Yah, but with crazy heat

Cindy,
They look super. Remember any white legged ones are mine ! Mark those with the freckled heads. I'll tell you why, if you don't figure it out later. What a great job hatching those shipped eggs ! Now if you can just keep them from frying...........

Thanks Vickie,

And thanks for reminding me to tag my 'freckled' chicks...as I have read that these chicks will develop the most desirable Buff color?
I am keeping the brooder temp as optimal as possible...between fans and frozen 16 oz water bottles and various wattage l(125 overnight and switch to a in morning til around noon) lamps at night and early morning. I will back off even more with the 125 watt bulb as they get a bit older...a real juggling act for the next few months, no doubt...but all will be worth it! I am hoping that their development won't be hindered permanently by the heat early on...perhaps they will make it up in November when they reach 4 months onward...they will have the utmost care and feed regimen to ensure this.

I sure would have preferred brooding them in late Winter...alas, one must seize opportunity when it knocks however!

Greetings all, I've been absent for a little bit. I thought I'd post a link to an upcoming pullet we have. She's 20 weeks and looking strong type-wise. Her mottling's nothing to write home about, but I'm more concerned with type a this point. It's hard to gauge her size from the photo, but she's a pretty big girl. She's only 1/4lb below standard weight for a pullet at 20 weeks; so, I'm fairly confident she's going to hit the mark.

I can't actually manage to post the link. So here's a link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/75843851@N08/sets/72157634295861978/

Evening all.....trying to get packed up for a work trip to Tallahassee, but I snapped a couple of shots of some 2013 grow out pullets (Columbian Rocks LF) and thought I'd stick them up before I leave. Edging/lacing on mail tail feathers is much improved as is tail spread, although I do still have a few inverted "U" shaped as opposed to inverted "V" shaped tails....coloring is improving with every season I think. A couple pullets have begun to lay, not certain which ones (I've kept 12 to grow out and will cull those down to 4-5). These girls are all about 6 months old +/-
