Yard full o' rocks :

Ok....I get the comb thing

What does "shaped like a brick" mean??? And is that only in RIRs or all breeds?

Thanks

It a Red thing.. LOL

I for get where I got this from but this might help..
Reds should carry its body perfectly horizontal and should be long, approaching in shape when viewed from the side as nearly as possible to rectangle or “Brick Shape”. The line of back and keel should be both be level and parallel to one another. The base line of the wing should be parallel to the back and keel and the wing should never have a tendency to drop, as the is a defect. The back should not only be flat from front to rear, but should be flat side to side. There should be no tendency to slope from the backbone to the side, and show no indication of a ridge along the backbone. The breast must project outward in order to fill out the rectangular shape. If a line was dropped through the base of the beak it should just clear the front of the breast.

Pictures don't tell everything, so I just go by what I see. The comb should follow the head and the wing carriage needs to be up. Can't comment on color since all these monitors show color a different way.

Walt Leonard

Hope you don't mind if I add. To me he looks a little short in the back & I feel he could be fuller in his breast.

OK, good RIR should be shaped like bricks, I see it in the pics of birds you all say are excellent, and in the SOP. Walt has told us that Dels should have a bowl shaped underpinning or underline or whatever you want to call it, and in the roos the back slopes into the tail. What about BR? Kathy asked about hers and didn't get a lot of response - I would like to know also, as the picture in the SOP appears to be a little longer in the back than a Delaware, but I can still visually draw a circle and see a bowl shape, and again, the back seems to flow into the tail. No abrupt break. (the SOP)

BTW, I looked in my SOP to compare BR and Dominiques. Yah, if they were bred to the SOP there is no way anyone would get them confused. There is an amazing lot of difference.

Bob on the size of that cockeral I am going to guess that he is yours and that he is a bantam. I could of course be totally wrong, but am guessing you may be playing with us a bit. I know you have some pretty darn good RIR bantams. I am going to guess that the camera angle makes that fence a non factor.

You going to let us know?

I was thinking of that also.
I know Bob has Bantams and didnt think that he had LF, but I thought they might be a new addition to his farm and I was trying to size it to the fence....
I think you are right and that is one of his Mohawk Bantams....

Chris

Correct he is a bantam. I was taking pictures of white leghron bantam pullets so I could send them to my partner in this breed and out of the corner of my eye I saw this guy with this pose. I got off two quick poses befor he moved. He is one of three ckls I hatched last year. The orange cord in front of him is a black and decker extension cord used to give the breeders light during breeding season. He is pretty close to standard weight he is 2 oz over when I weiged him last year. The wire is 2x4 inch wire. Sorry I tricked you could not help it to through in a bantam on a all large fowl thread. bob

You got to stay on top of it! I come home from work and have PAGES to catch up on....

I think it might just be the best thread ever. Though... Walt's input in the Delaware Dilemma thread is a close contender for "best thread".

Back to my seat to take notes......
