Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

I was going to say, for large Buff Orps see Roy, aka cowboygormet.

We got suprised at our APA State meet, our Buckeye pullets did better than our males! BB and RB with our pullets. Sometimes the birds we ignore do better.

For SLW I would suggest the Foleys aka Mr/Mrs Turbo. Have seen their birds at Shawnee. WOW! is an understatement.

We started with 8 breeds. Then wittled it down to now where we have one. I wasn't even aware of cyber-chickenville when I made that original leap.

No one was there to tell me, "Halt! Don't go that way! You'll tread water and chase your tail! You might risk burn-out! You won't see strong progress!"

Have a wish list. Prioritize. Start with one. Master one. Come to know that step. Then add number two. If you try to start with several, you'll be static in all. It's like learning a language. You start with one and master it. Then you move to diversification. In a way, learning the grammar and vocab of each breed is like learning a language. It's all well and good to know how to say "I love you" in ten different languages, but it's really cool--for your own personal experience and in relationship to ohers--to choose one language and master it fluently.

Someone needs to learn to speak Partridge Wyandotte!

Hey Bob. Urch/Turnland has very nice Large Fowl in Black & White Langshan (blacks may have come from F. Beauford yrs. ago will find out), Very nice Dark Brahma (Danny Williamson used these for his foundation stock) and he has Partridge Cochin that I have not paid attention to when over there so not sure what they are like. Will be going over after the 1st and plan on getting pics of some of his birds and a 2011 breed list for the thread.

He also has Black Langshan, Buff and Dark Brahma and Partridge Cochin in bantams. Not sure what they look like but will check when I visit. I know he is hatching some breeds the 1st week of Jan.

Good Luck with the birds

Yes, I hope to. I KNOW I have too many breeds. Really, I know this. I love my Barred Rocks, New Hampshires, and Delawares. I do have others I have for eye candy, as well. I also like the challenge to possibly create Delawares, and that is my current project.

I am not a breeder. I am learning what I can, but I feel it takes years and years to earn that title. Doubt I will ever earn it. I see people who have had chickens 2 or 3 years give breeding advice.

I really enjoy hearing what the experts that have many years of experience say though.

I haven't had any luck getting ahold of Urch/Turnland, I'd love to be able to speak with him about his birds. Does anyone know if Richard Schock still has Langshans? If so, that'd be a good place for you to direct some people to Mr. Blosl.

I spoke with him awhile back, but I can't remember if he said he still had his Langshans or not.
