I did similar, got rid of my hatchery RIRs, and replacing with from a breeder, Duane Urch,

I am also hoping for some Icelandics this year, and slowly searching for some other old breeds. Hopefully next year can add on or more extra.

Where is the BEST place to get a list of what is truely cosidered "Heritage" breeds? I know some are considered endangered. I have magazines that mention some but the information I have read in them on other subjects is not always the best so I would like a more reliable source.

The American Minor Breeds Conservancy has a list, but its often outdated, I honestly dont know who keeps a list of heritage breeds by ranking and rarity. If Robert was online he could shed some light on this. There is another rare breeds thread here that might have a ranking.

To me they are rare if there are less then 500 adults carried through the winter, other then production hatchery stock. Google County Line Hatchery in Iowa, they may have some idea, as well as Duane Urch. [email protected]
