Hello. Breeding barred rocks to the standard, or at least that is the plan.

Pat Malone, judge and member of the APA Standard Committee wrote a very good letter to the WFG dept explaining that the APA has recognized the Naragansett turkey as a domestic turkey breed since 1874.

We won this....thanks to many. Heard Pat had sent a letter. Perfect person to write it. Hoping we do not have to deal with any more wildlife depts any time soon. Its really nice to be a part of something like the American Poultry Association!

Thanks Jim

I am really glad to hear this, I worked for Fish & Game etc in the NW a lot 30 yrs ago and I continually ran into people who didnt have a clue about anything that wasnot in their specialty.

I am sure that this is one of those cases.

I am glad that reason won through on this.

Why are they doing this Jim? a monsantoes dirty trick? or that breed winning too many championships and hurt feelings? or what? I cant imagine anyone banning a heritage breed..biodiversity is important to prevent extinctions.if any fowl numbers dip too low, and there is an outbreak of any kind it can wipe out everything..

It was a mis-Interpretation of the law.

Not really a "mis-interpretation" of law, but a misunderstanding of history. All wild/domestic cross turkeys are still banned. Wyoming Game & Fish just finally understood that the Narragansett IS NOT one of them.
