We both had the same thought about Yellow House!

How bad is it in Vernon parish? Guessing that is Louisanna? We are 2 hours north of Monroe, LA. Starting to get a little wet here. The rain is a welcome site!
I'm an hour north of New Orleans and we got slammed last night with both wind and rain. A lot of flooding all around us and even more South of us. Most of the flooding has been cause from the water being blown in from the Gulf and Lake. We got a lot of rain but nothing to worry about here, everything is draining like we want it to. Our biggest problem came yesterday and lasted until 3:30 in the morning when we found one of our horses colicing. Lucky for me, I'm married to a Large Animal Vet with her own business so we had everything here at the house to take care of our mare and we caught it early. She is doing great today. Also, not one chicken or chicken coop lost here. lol !!!!

Was sitting out the other evening, watching chicken TV (that's drinking a cold one (or 2) and observing my birds). I'm down to my best 7 cockerels and still have a LOT of waiting to do with them as they mature SO slowly.

But here is a picture of what I think is one of my better Columbian Rock females (2012 hatch)

Would love to hear opinions (negative or positive), I'm a big boy and can take it all!! I have apprx 30 pullets left to sort as "keepers" and "culls" and want to make darn certain I am keeping the right ones.

Off to celebrate my wife's "29th birthday" for the 15th time....stay well

She looks very nice isn't it nice to get a trio from Canada raise about 200 birds in two years and get something like that to look like. I am sure you will have two more like her and two nice males to go with them. Do it all over again and they will improve another half a point next year. Who knows you may become the King of Colombian Plymouth Rocks some day. I can say I know how you are.

Know does any one else wont some of these very nice pretty Heritage Chickens? Don't fool with those weird hard to breed chickens. Get some good birds like these and help populate them for the next ten years. Good job. bob

Quote: Very nice bird. So happy there are some nice White Rocks in the Mid west. Maybe some folks will get into these kind of chickens and learn how to breed type and maybe show them and win a thropy. They are very easy to rasie, hatch and condition. Good birds like these can not be found at hatcherys sorry. bob

Thanks Bob....you KNOW I couldn't have done it without ya!!! I am so blessed that you thought of me with that original trio. Remember, my goal was to "make you proud that you'd made a good decision".

I actually have 2 full sisters to this pullet and 2 half sisters that look VERY much like her. This one has the best tail though.

Next year I've got to focus a bit more attention on developing a female line and a male line. My females seem to be coming along pretty well, but my males just aren't quite there yet.

Already working on breeding plans for 2013...hope to start hatching by late Nov or early Dec once the weather cools a bit.

She looks good. You're doing a nice job with them. Columbian is one of the most striking varieties isn't it?
