digital Fish scales and five gallon bucket work well.
My English BO cockerel won't fit in a 5 gallon bucket at 8 months. He weighed 14 lbs at 8 mos, on the nose. The hanging fish scales are great though. That's what I have.

Wanting some recommendations on scales to weigh chickens. Working on my x-mas list :)
I use a Berkly digital fish scale and a big tote bag like you can find in the grocery store check out lane. The scale seems quite accurate and was not expensive at all.

I would like to see this14 lbs Buff Orpington on a scale.

Also if he is 14 lbs he would/ will be a DQ at a APA show. [ He is more than 20% the Standard weight ]

Yup, and there are some judges reading this thread. If a person breeds to the APA SOP they have to breed for the correct weight along with everything else.

Monty is too valuable right now to show. He'll let his kids speak for him. Their new owners are thrilled with them on account of type, size, and disposition. AND...They're ALL ORP, not a hodge podge of breeds

I'll bet if I whipped out a scale , 1/2 of the Plymouth Rock cocks, and Cochins would be DQd too.

Walt,

You'll just have to ride over to see him then . CC Canada lives here too, as well as Bondy Long......Bowani Motors.
Monty's Ks and Ps are hitting around the standard weight mark. It would be VERY interesting to start weighing birds. I've hefted some of the big ones, and I know they're all over their breed limits. YOU DO too !

That is why if you started weighing birds at shows A LOT of people would be very upset!!! Some whites would get DQ'd, a lot of the colored ones would probably be OK if not under
And unfortunatley a judge can't DQ unless he is positive of a precise weight. And to be fair every other bird in the show would have to be weighed
