Ok...just subscribed to Poultry Press...I think I've been picking them up when I see them, so this made me finally do it...you guys really are enablers! ;) that's my story to DH, and I'm sticking to it...you made me get another magazine!

Anyone know anything about a Sears Farm Master incubator? A local shop has one 'restored' for $215..... looks huge in the pic I"m going to try and see it in person later in the week. Anything special I should look at/for?
I used one for over 30 year as a hatcher and loved using it as a hatcher

Sears was a dealer. the manufacturer was Leahy it appears from a photo I seen on eBay. Any real redwood cabinet is a steal. Top breeders claim they get the best hatches from a redwood. if its not really "restored" try restoring it with the Sportsman's new preset system. More important, post photos!

I would just ask to see if they could get it running and come back the next day to make sure the fan is working and the heat is good and that they have enough egg trays and turning bars, I dont know what they would mean by "restored" but I know some people have modified them to put automatic turners in. I would also check to see if they have the water pan in there still because the humidity varies way to much without it, I have one with and one without and the one with it keeps a much more steady humidity.

Thank you very much! I haven't gotten an answer yet to my questions of it working, ect. Just a pic on their FB page. I don't remember what days they are closed now, but know they will be open over the weekend, and of course I'll post pics if I buy it!

I have converted my DH and kids into chicken enthusiasts!!! I get some support these days--try to find a bird that would interest your DH. Mine loves to unwind at the end of a long day and throw the scratch . . .

Definitely has some eye appeal!

Right now, he just does what I ask him to, as far as the coop. I gave him another month to get the solar pop door, and security light tweaked...we'll see. I think he will be better once the chicks are here and he holds them. He wasn't really a cat person until the young stray who adopted us, gave birth to four kittens. Now, he cuddles and plays with the three cats we have now. He's pretty understanding about my love for animals...so, keep your fingers crossed that he will like chickens too. That's what I'm gonna do! ;) I'm gonna try and get him out to take care of them...watch them...see how fun they are. It would be nice to have his support when I get really bitten by the chicken bug!

Quote: I have a unit like this. Plug it in and let her go. Set the temp to average between about 100. degrees. If it has a pan fill it up if not ad some water to it. I turn my own eggs so a turner is not a big deal my unit is a hatch er but it is the same box and heating unit. If you had to pay retail for this it would be over a thousand dollars. The wood hold the humidly and that is the secret why it is such a great unit. bob
