Dragon Lady, both boys are very handsome!
Thanks Lual ! I'm going to really watch this boy. He went through a sudden growth spurt as some cockerels do, and is really impressing me now. The boy behind will hopefully do the same thing . I'm really pleased with this breeding, especially as the pullets are very nice too.

Mr Lightfoot would be so proud. What a wonderful high scoring Standard Breed H fowl.

I have a question on a article I am putting together on Washing Chickens before a Poultry Show.

I have five tubs of water. One with soap these rinses and a final tub rinse with a little of Mrs. Old Fashion bluing in it.

I would like to put in tub one with the soap a mite killer of some sort. I would have say four gallons of water and the soap Ivory bar of soap say but what would you recommend or read or ;use or think would be save to use for the kill the mite while you was program?

Permithian was one I heard a old boy use. He just poured it in. Never could bet a measurement like a half a oz or one fourth oz per gallon or per five gallon.

If you have a idea or see the instructions on the internet maybe you can lead me to it so I can figure this out.

Thank you and nice pictures of the orps. Station was there dead center and plum

this is what he used after he came back from a show. He mixed up a five gallon bucket and put them up to there wattles and pulled them out and let them dry in conditioning pens for ten days after a show. But he would never tell me how much a cap full or what. bob

0.50% solution - 5-1/2 ounces Permethrin in 1 gallon water.

Wilbur took me to school on runners Walt, so I really know what I'm looking at. He was one h@** of a teacher. It won't be the same going to Ohio, and not seeing Wilbur and Doris. Clell will get his hug though.

Clell lets you hug him?! That grumpy guy?

Never tried it, will have to next time I see him, run up and give him a big hug and smooch. LOL! I am actually so looking forward to going to Columbus this Nov, haven't been to a show in over two years and I have missed all my friends!

Bob,
I've used Permethrin for years. There is no need to dip birds after a show. I was sometimes called the "Shake and Bake Lady". My birds were always dusted before going into their traveling coops to come home. I use Permethrin liquid in my roosts to spray into every nook and cranny for Northern Fowl Mite. Those blood thirsty boogers hide in the cracks, and will, as you know, suck a good bird dry. The liquid gets into the cracks better than the dust.

Every nest has Permethrin dust in it too under the straw. Even my Wrens' nests have dust in them. No bugs. Dust BEFORE you come home, and you'll have much less problem with bugs.

I've known Clell with hair, bald, with a rug, and now bald again.Just a big teddy bear ! He doesn't suffer fools gladly though.

Per this its 1.28 oz of 10% concentrate to gallon of water.
Please read to check my calculations.

Since, I only have 2 large coops/runs in my setup,I use garden & poultry dust on birds and in coops for it's persistence...and I love the Adams Flea & Tick spray to get into the crevices...First, I do the coops/nestboxes during daylight in hopes of getting them whilst they are hiding...I dust or spray birds at night whilst roosting to get any on the birds including those that have 'escaped' the coop treatment earlier...plus it's easier to do them when they are more subdued etc.

what about before you wash your birds. Some folks ad something to the water while the birds are in the water while you are washing your white rocks. I use Frontline or Adams after the show.

Thanks for the posts. bob

Dust BEFORE you come home, and you'll have much less problem with bugs.

How common is it, to pick up parasites at a show? Don't the inspectors prevent that, before the show, at the health check? Or, if any got by them, wouldn't the judge notice bugs on a bird?

Congrats on your win, Walt!
