There was a discussion about show boxes a month ago on this thread. Walt and the dragonlady had tips about it. Sadly I did not save that information to my Chicken notes. Google does a much better job of searching BYC than BYC's search engine so start there.
Best!
Having washed my share of birds for shows, I wrote an article about it on our website: http://pathfindersfarm.com/Washing.htmlOK, so, what is the "washing/scrubbing" action. Does one soak? Rub? Shake? Plunge? What exactly does one do. I've never really had to wash anything besides feet before.
I'm definitely picking up the Downy after work tomorrow.
Evening all
Who out here has experience with "split tails". Before the rain got here today, I was overlooking the 4 Ks I held back and my #1 choice has suddenly got me worried. He's 10 months old, seems to be lacking his main sickle feathers still, but his tail suddenly looks "parted"
Will this change as those mail sickles come in? I HOPE!!??
Would really be a bummer at this point, BUT, don'r want to introduce a problem either
Thanks
I'll try to get pix tomorrow after the rain from this tropical storm lets up
DRAGONLADY (I feel like a yelling Kermit the frog) Does my memory serve we well in that you had a trick for putting a little conditioning into a bird after washing them?
I'm going to wash Dorkings for the first time tomorrow. I'm going to go the Tide with bleach alternative route, but I thought I remembered you discussing something to do post-wasg that return oils or what not. Am I right there?
Walt, how did the show go? Any pictures?
Question for the group: What would you recommend to use for washing SLW?
Thanks, Melissa
My Orp boys molt out sickles at about that age. Think about it...the sickles are the last adult feathers to come in. If he has been in molt at all I wouldn't worry.
Use Tide Bright and Vivid White. I always wash under running water, not in tubs. The SLWs always got a small bit of Downey poured over them before the last rinsing. Those feet and legs are soaked first, and then scales cleaned, just before the last rinse.Good ,clean yellow legs and feet really set off a SLW.
It looks like his tail is not all in yet. Have you looked down in those tail feathers ?
