Feather quality: Another issue I have seen with my RIW..the Cockeral MOT has neck hackle reminiscent of a hula skirt. Granted, he is still young and fledging, but his hackle is so long and loose that just standing still you can see his skin.
So that is a no no as well as his stance.
It is so tiring...but I am getting the white rocks..so another long row to hoe...will not be showing but no doubt will see you Walt~~

I stopped by the show this evening and there were alot of coop tags for Largefowl Reds. I am going back in the morning to see what they look like.

If you downloaded the Plymouth Rock standard off the club site, that is an old standard. It lists the 45 degree angle. The new SOP for the Plymouth Rocks is 30 for the males and 25 for females. I had to ask myself last year since I am only using old standard for my program. That old book is really important in all the pictures it shows for all colors. Feathers show great detail and lots of good breeding infomation.

Have fun to all that are going to the show!

Good luck! Have fun in any event. Who is judging?

Walt

Jim Crain I believe is listed as the Judge for this show.....

Don't trust Jim Crain. He placed the ugliest bird in our APA State Meet as Grand Champion Waterfowl. Even admitted it was ugly. When I asked him about it, he said:

This ain't no beauty contest. We judge to the Standard of Perfection. And that is one of the best Muscovy drakes I have seen. But he is ugly!

We had some nice Buff ducks and Brown Chinese Geese. Yet he gave it to my ugliest old drake! Yesterday that ugly drake was playing in a mud puddle. I was honored to clerk for Jim Crain last spring in Pine Bluff, AR. He is a fine judge. Explained to me why he judged certain birds like he did. After he judged the AOCCL and placed a rumpless bird as Best AOCCL, I asked him about teh Buckeye Bantams being shown. He was nice enough to tell me what he thought. That they were nice, but just not quite right. Needed more work. I never told him that after the show, the breeder was giving them to my son for his 4H project. I was very mute about that even during the judging. The only thing I can say bad about him is....he liked that ugly duck!

I remember when you told us about that Muscovy a while back. Personally I think all muscovies are ugley doogly !
Is it possible the Muscovy was SOP ?
A perfect Muscovy ?
If so he deserved the award.
I have some pearl guineas, and I think they are so odd and in their way, beautiful birds.
My DH hates them and thinks they are the most ugly thing he has ever seen and they hate him and scream their buckwheats and chit chits at him every time he goes by their pen.
But they are perfect SOP Guinea fowl all the same..

My daughter calls mine dinosaur birds, she hates them. I never thought about showing guineas, then one won grand champion, don't remember what show, though.

They are recognized now by the APA and will be in the 1010 SOP which should be available now. I believe Dave Anderson put one up for best of show, but that is the only one I know of and can't remember which show. It probably won't happen too often, but you can earn points with them if you are interested in such things.
White, pearl and lavender are recognized.
