Probably not, but that is true of fairs I judge, but not club shows. So Punky....you are half right.

My daughter calls mine dinosaur birds, she hates them. I never thought about showing guineas, then one won grand champion, don't remember what show, though.

I saw a poultry press not too long ago and Duane & Phyllis Urch won with a Guinea.
Mine are awesome, so weird.
They really know me vs other people and are the best watchdogs.
When they go "off" I just laugh like crazy..they crack me up. I cannot imagine a row of cages guineas at a show...it is already so noisy at a poultry show !

If your daughter calls the Guineas dinosaur birds, show her Illia's Shamo!

Hey !
I have been working hard trying to get feathered shanks from my Silver Cuckoos, and success !
Again double posting, as I posted on the marans thread. Not only feathered shanks, but feathered toes !
Can't waite to see the eggs they will lay.

Gosh it feels good when you work so hard to perfect a breed to what it should be, what it was meant to be, and succeed !
Now, the RIW may be alot more difficult.
I seriously admire those of you that have spent lifetimes perfecting/culling to get it right.
You have my undying admiration !
TA DA!! FRENCH Silver Cuckoo Marans at last!

Evening all.....

Just "dropping by" to report in on the show from Dalton this past weekend. I enjoyed it VERY much and met a lot of wonderful people, some I had only talked with via email a few times.

There were LOTS and LOTS of birds at the show but 95%+ were bantams

Not that I dislike bantams, but I am really into the BIG BIRDS. I saw only 1 RIR that was marginally the correct color (only know that because of Mr Bob Blosl and his sharing) and type...the rest were all production RIRs.

Only BR shown had "feathered legs" ... go figure. Obviously DQ'd.

I did find out that this was predominantly a "bantam show" for 20+ yrs and the LF are just getting back to being shown. There were some really neat looking "little birds"!!! D'Anvers, D'Uccles, Moderns, OEs, Dutch, etc, etc.....it was like a "jelly bean jar" of bantam chickens

Headed to the Newnan show in 2 weeks. Supposed to be more LF at that show

Sorry, no pix to share as I didn't take a single picture

On another note...9 baby Col Rock (LF) in hte brooder as we speak from my Canadian Trio. 6 more due Wednesday, and 15 more behind that. Hatching early this year and hoping to put 75-100 chicks on the ground by late March

Take care all

Well, I guess we got a lot of folks here that need to get their birds to shows this year, I am sorry my pullets and roos wont be showable this year, maybe one or two will be far enough along just for an exhibit though. I hope to have SQ LF Partridge Wyandottes and RC RIRs to show next year. My others here will be going to 4H homes.

I am working on a list of breeds that were very popular by famous breeders from twenty to fifty years ago. Could I get some of you to help me with these breeds and the owners of these breeds and the point of all of this where are their work or thier birds today. I will post a list latter in a article that I am putting togeather for eaither a year book or for the Poultry Press. I will start off with a few breeds and then you can just add the breed and the name of the owner that you can recall.

White Cornish Lewis Streght 1960 to 2000 Ohio

This is a start and many of these breeders sold eggs, hundreds and thousads of chicks to people all thier poultry lives. Where are their blood lines today. Are they in the hands of the Heritage breeder who is trying to keep this line going some of these lines are over 100 years old or have they become so rare they are almost edangered.

There are so many Breeds that where rasied by so many great many women and men but where have these lines gone. Its a fact they have not gone to Hatcheries. So help me make a list and see how far we can go with this and where we can track down who has thier birds today.

Large fowl are rare because no buddy raises them any more. I started out with two breeds of large fowl 22 years ago reds and white rocks. I have nothing but bantams today. Main reason who can I share them with. Shipping live birds is to costly. I can send a pair of gray call ducks, S C Rhode reds, white rocks, buff brahmas, white leghorns or dark cornish bantams for about $40 plus box. I just live in the wrong part of the country. bob
