Lacy,

That is probably as close as you are going to get here in the US. I am not saying they are correct by any means, but they look better than anything I have seen. They also look like the mille fluer Leghorns I just graded for someone last weekend.....except with a different head. It doesn't look like a leghorn from the neck up.

Here's a bad picture of a Russian Rooster from a line I was working on. I wish I could have got a better picture of him standing more upright (He is a F3 Russian/ Malay Cross)

Walt,
I agree I doubt there are any real Orloffs in the U.S. also.
The info on the Russians may be from me. Not positive, I read and save so much poultry stuff I forget what I have at times.

Are you Chris F. If you are then maybe. I know 'Chris' has been mentioned to me by Charlie, the man with the Orloffs to share. So... are you agreeing that back breeding them to the Malay might improve them?

I did a search for Russian Orloffs in the archives of birds for sale. This is the first one that came up and the post is only about a week old. The mention blue isbar in the address but in their signature, the say the have the orloffs as well.

Thank you Lacy for so succinctly making me feel like an idiot. I should have done the same search. I am so unaccustomed to using this site for anything beyond a few forum questions and reading the threads. Clearly that has to be changed so I don't have Orloff egg on my face.
I agree with you that I'' have to work on these but I would like to start with as good a project bird as possible. Some of the old illustrations are very predatory and meaty looking. They remind personally of the African Secretary Bird... not sure why.
What do I think about those birds above. Too much white. Not yellow enough legs on all but maybe one. Nice Splangle on some, not others. The chest on that last one is definitely too light. I didn't see any cockerels. The type on that last pictures seems off to me too, more like the type of an Ameraucana than the upright of the Orloff... but I am learning so take everything I say with a grain of salt. It may just be the pose but that back looks too long. That third picture looks the best as far as I can tell... minus the too much white part and legs. BUT this is where you big boys tell me a thing or two :)

I'm supposed to get better pictures at some point with each one labeled so I can pick which I want.

Please, comment.

No I'm not Chris F.

Back Crossing to a Malay is the only way I know that is going to improve type BUT you will have to find a real good pair of Malay. (ones with good Body and tail)

Chris

beautiful birds..this is so interesting..I have never seen an orloff at any show I have ever been to..so a new wrinkle on my brain. love learning about a .heritage breed.

I am very sorry. That was not my intent at all. I was merely trying to help.

Don't feel bad! I was being funny about it but that gets lost in typing I guess. I own of my ignorance. Like I said, its why I come in here. I don't always LIKE being ignorant and I hate feeling like I wasted someone's time (like I did when you pointed out using search in here) but its part of learning and I figure if I am up front about it I might get less people irritated when I ask lots of questions. I am so greatful that this thread has taken time to talk about Orloffs. Please don't apologize.

I was wrong the man's name isn't Chris but Curtis F. Oops.
