I don't have leghorns but I do have Andalusians (same class). They have long legs and their steps use the whole leg. They take long steps... the boys do. The girls do too, but understandably, not as long as the boys. Still, you can see that the whole leg is in motion. In my heavier "yard birds," they more or less waddle, taking shorter steps.

I haven't but I would if I did.

One of the Delaware (meat birds) I have has a goofy gait, plus his head kind of shakes and lowers to one side when he looks at me. I'm just waiting for him to get big enough and he's going to the freezer! They all are but he has absolutely NO opportunity to survive here.

If I'm understanding this, goose stepping like the Nazi military march is a no-no in cornish.

My turkeys don't move like my chickens. At full weight the turkeys lumber along, a turkey trot looks like speed walking to me.

The chickens RUN. I look for differences in movement between those that are narrow versus those that are wide between the legs. Will there be a difference in movement between say a leghorn and a NH, for example?

Yes, some Cornish walk stiff legged like a nazi soldier. That is a severe fault that indicates that the legs are not working correctly. Slim birds move differently than fat birds. Heavily feathred birds like the British Orps or Cochins will waddle. I think even a beginner can tell when a chicken has an unusual gait. Many times it is one leg, so that makes it even more obvious. When you see it you will know something is wrong.

Got a email from Derick in South Dac this is a picture of one of his pet males for 2012. This male is half Couter and half Jeff Halbach. This male has the shape and length of my old line from Oliver Bowen but the blade looks a little different or smaller. Non the less he his full of vigor and this is going to be a very good source for folks to get White Rocks for the future.

He sounds like he has some Wyandottes from Bob Coutler. I think I am going to call him tonight and put on my Colombo act and act stupid and find out what he has and where he got them routine.

Ordered some chicken diapers today. Dont know what I am going to do with them. Might put some eggs in them for cushioning next spring. Steve do you have any other suggestions. I have never used them befor. Well got to go out side and see how Mr. Silkie is doing and Pee Wee my little runt white leghorn ckl.

Hope you all have a nice day.

Mr. Silkie? Really Bob?

Did you take your meds today?

When one of my mentors, Mr. Bob Blosl starts buying chicken diapers, naming his chickens and raising silkies.... well, I think the world's gonna end.

Walt-- for clarification, when you say" fat bird" are referring to very wide built birds or those that are literally heavy with adipose tissue? lol

A heavy breed (especially if it is loosely feathered) as opposed to a Meditarranean breed like leghorns and andalusians.bad choice of words on my part.
If you have the breed for a week you will know if one is walking different than the rest.
