Ordered some chicken diapers today. Dont know what I am going to do with them. Might put some eggs in them for cushioning next spring. Steve do you have any other suggestions. I have never used them befor. Well got to go out side and see how Mr. Silkie is doing and Pee Wee my little runt white leghorn ckl.
Hope you all have a nice day.
That's why I like the Sussex fowl so much. It's such a nice "Inbetween" bird when bred correctly. A collection of lovely curves melding together. Not too fat or too thinA heavy breed (especially if it is loosely feathered) as opposed to a Meditarranean breed like leghorns and andalusians.bad choice of words on my part.
If you have the breed for a week you will know if one is walking different than the rest.

. Soft-feathered but also close-feathered. Not extreme in any area. I think a properly bred Sussex will fill the eye. No part of it extreme enough to attract attention just to that part instead of the whole bird. A a handsome, robust, balanced bird.
Best,
karen
awh, shucks, now you got me blushin'Karen, on an aside, that was really well phrased. It reads a bit like poetry.
So I have decided to work on Crevecoeurs. I have my first good batch of chicks growing right now. I have treated myself with some Barred Rock chicks from Kathyinmo to try out some true heritage birds. It is just amazing to me to have birds from a line that is so old. They hatched with my Crevs and I think it will be very interesting to see the differences between the two.
I was out inspecting them they are about four weeks old now. The Barred Rocks are growing so differently. They have very meaty little bodies. I can hardly believe how full their little awkward bodies are.I am excited to see these little ones grow.![]()

Thanks. I think they are an important breed and I look forward to improving what I have. I have an old black and white photograph of a Crev from a National Geographic magazine from 1927. I love the rooster in the photograph. I am working on getting my birds to look like that photo. Have a long way to go. I always try to look at my picture daily.
Don't worry Walt. I promise that nothing without red earlobes will be added to my breeders.
