Spent the day on the water fishing in the great days outdoors. Got a phone call from my Friend Steve from Georgia so I drifted with the wind and ran my electric motor on low for a hour talking to him and enjoying the beauty of Fish River near Fair hope Alabama.

Had a big day catching Red Fish or Red Drum.

Welcome new Lurkers. Dont be afraid to post . I know you are reading our posts study, think, plan then get you some once you figured out what you want. Dont go out and look at the front of your house then ask us for chickens with those colors. Most of the time they are Hatchery level as no buddy fools with those breeds much. Some chicken collectors do but very hard to breed up to the standard.

We talked about who has the best White Face Black Spanish. Mr. Presley in Tenn and a friend of mine Mike Miller in North Carolina.

They are neat chickens mostly rare, lay good and some meat on their bones. Need help very badly.

Well got to go out and water and feed the chickens. Got to move Mr. Silkie to a better pen. He is so sweat and he talks to me.

Have a nice afternoon.

I am weeding out my "non-breeders" for next season. I have a few hens/pullets for sale here if anyone is interested in a heritage bird, just to get their feet wet.

Or, if you are interested in getting started with a breeding trio of these birds, please let me know and I can put one together for you

Deer season (archery) opens here tomorrow and the boys are leaving for the weekend. Cool weather is headed this way and all is good in the deep-South

Have a great weekend!!!

Hey Bob,
Mr. Presley doesn't have the white face black spanish. It is a Mr. Bell that raises these birds. Enjoyed talking to you today.

I'm so ready for freezing temperatures.

23 birds dead thus far from this wet pox. Not cool. It seems as though all of my grown birds and future breeders are through with it. Just have risidual coughing. The young chicks don't stand a chance against it. From now on, all chicks will be hatched and then vaccinated at 8 weeks for Fowl Pox. I'm never going through this again.

I got the sweetest letter in the mail. I won't name who, but just know that I am very appreciative that he took the time!

Oh no! I am so sorry for your losses. That's terrible. I hope you get nice hatches next year to repopulate.
Sad Regards,

THe best teacher is live and learn. Not easy lessons, but the lesson is clear, and will be remembered. Sorry for the significant losses; I too lost about 20 young birds--lessons learned. At least they were mostly hatchery. Lost my buckeyes though. Anyway, hoping you will have a better season next year.

I actually had a "feeling" something was going to happen. So I started collecting eggs.

Guess it was right because the day I put the eggs in the incubator, I noticed some sneezing. Weird...

I wasn't prepared for this. Oklahoma has mosquitoes, but this place...not the same at all. Very odd as to how many times I have had to battle this disease in one year. Maybe if I vaccinate each hatch, I won't have these issues. Hate to learn that way, but at least now I know the birds that survived are clear from getting it again.
