Is it my ignorance, or do they look like black guinea hens? I don't know a lot about BFS, but thought they had more of a Langshan appearance? Someone educate me
Thanks,

No. Those are just very young pullets.

Black Faced White Spanish are in the Mediterranean class. The same class as a Leghorn and Minorca. They are tightly feathered birds, that are much slighter in frame than birds from the Asiatic class.

Im tired will come up with some more latter. How about helping me out. bob
----------
Speckled Sussex in large fowl and bantam.
In Large fowl, only several lines. Walt Reichert (KY); Tony Albrittion (ID); Gary Overton (OH).
In Bantam, Rev. Ashbrook (OH); Rob Mongold(OH); Gary Overton (OH); derived strain in LF=Fox (OH). Also in bantams: Skytop (Overton x Mongold); created in PA, now owned by KY lad( not Reichert). Several other bantam flocks around which are Mongold x Overton; Ashbrook x Overton; Skytop x Overton.
In both LF and bantams, Speckled Sussex need Preservationists. The gene pool is healthy but needs folk who will take the time to keep breeding to type and keep the finesse needed to breed this most difficult of Sussex colors. Speckled Sussex is a tri-color variety and balancing the undercolor is critical to obtaining and sustaining the correct top color. Very friendly variety with helpful elder breeders willing to share top stock. This variety must never, ever be bred out of the veteran established strains. It's because it takes decades to coddle the color genes into bringing about acceptable speckling on proper ground color. One cross to a hatchery or mediocre bird can set one back for years. To be trusted with birds from the above gene pools is to honor them by respecting the decades of work which have gone before by staying within these gene pools. There is plenty of health, proper type, productive capability to go around so one can exercise their artist's eye while breeding to the SOP and and staying within the gene pool of top Speckled Sussex fowl.

Speckled Sussex is for sure a old classic breed needed on this list.

I just got a call and there is a big fair in Knoxville Tenn and they have over a 1,000 fowl entered if you live with in driving distance you could see many rare breeds there and one fellow broght 400 birds from Ohio and selling them cheap. If you go there you should be able to put your name on the coop card and pay the Poutlry Supp and pick them up next weekend when the show is over. Many rare breeds of large fowl that are from good strains not hatchery stock. bob

Edit one hour latter was told these 400 chickens are near hatchery quality poor condition. Do not fool with these birds. This is also a way to bring home illness to your flock. This is puppy farm chicken collectors at thier best in my view. I am busting my chops to condition my birds changing new shavings every three weeks fresh water every day only give them feed for a 24 hour feeding so they wont eat mildewed feed then people bring stuff like this to a fair. That is why it is so hard to show your birds at a fair one week in house in a coop around birds that are back yard raised in pig pen conditions.

Well got to get back on the lawn mower and mow the rest of my grass then watch the saints beat Washington Redskins.

Bob,

What a pity Wilbur Stauffer is gone, and so is his string. He always sold very good birds at Knoxville.
