Walt,

You with Silkies ?? I love it. I'll send you "Mama's" Photo. Still winning at 12 1/2 years old. She was from old Fred Woodham breeding. I think Marty Mcguire has some of his now.

I really do have these Silkies and it is a long story, but it was literally to make a dying man happy that I am playing with these things. If I was winning with a 12 yo bird, I wouldn't tell anyone......hahahaha I'm sure you know George. He is the first person to win a best of show with a blue Silkie and I judged that Silkie national. He was running me down before the judging saying that I didn't know anyhting about Silkes, but at the end of the day he was my best bud..thats how it goes in judging.

George was a trip. We went head to head a few times, but he bred great birds. Just what isthe problem in winning with a 12 year old bird? She was a doozy. She threw 3 chicks bred to a Bob Cook white...one gret, one white, and one black, known as "the terrible triplets". They were polite children...they took turns winning.

You have been around.....if you win with the same bird and it's old, people think you are a one bird show, but you have two others. I would rather win with young birds, as it shows depth.........actually I prefer winning all the firsts, bb and rb and then the class. Anything can happen after that.

That's just what my birds did at the APA-ABA national in Columbus. Showed 4 colors, 2 birds each. Won BV and RV across the board, as well as BB and RB. The win of a life time. I still think winning with an older bird is a great thing. We are showing "Breeding stock" Are we not? As such, the birds should be able to produce for a long time.

Its nice sitting around and listening to "old timers" talk!
