Maybe you may know something about what I was told recently. I heard Peter no longer has any Favs. A DaveK wrote me and told me this. And said that my Merlin/Boulanger crosses MAYBE worth more now that Peter no longer has any Favs. Does anyone know more about this?

It is true, Peter no longer has his salmons. Some people did get eggs from him, so the genetics are still available. Some of the pullets Henry has are Merlin/Boulanger crosses.

I'm also one that doesn't waste time with shipping eggs. Too many don't hatch, and there's no guarantee the ones that do hatch will be anything you want to breed. Started birds are a better way to begin with a breed.

I am not up on the British standard but even Black Orps call for a slate leg color. The original Aussy standard and the American is the same on leg color too.

The Brit Standard on Australorps isn't much if any different than ours. I don't see any differences between the APA SOP and the Australian Standard.

Those RC Anconas had a short stop over here in Bowlegs, OK on their way to Dallas, TX to help them get adjusted to the radical shift in climate. I want to say they had been kept over the winter in Iowa, but I've slept since then, anyway, somewhere up north in what I would practically consider the Tundra.

Its funny how ideas change. The author of this book says that the female andalusian should hold her tail up tight into a wedge and that the fully spread tail with wide feathers is "ugly!"

I'll take his OTHER advice to heart. Spittin' out the sticks!

I prefer started birds also. And was suppose to be the middle man in the delivery process.
The eggs I got from Dick were meant to be given to Paul Montieth an APA judge at the Greenville OH Poultry Show. They were suppose to have been shipped USPS 3 Day Priority. They were sent out on Teusday before the show and did not show up till the Monday after the show. Dick paid for the 3 Day Priority. Paul was long gone and at home by then. Paul told me to hatch em and enjoy them. I have a quad now. And two pullets look fantastic. But I know little about Salmon Favs. And I can always ask Ron Patterson about the quality if I have too. I also have a good friend Gayle Pontious who raised them for many years. She too can help me along. Their going on 6 months old here in 3 weeks. Looking forward to the future with them.

I plan on showing this pullet at Central Indiana Poultry Show in Lebanon IN as an Australorp. I am more use to the darker almost Black legged look for the Aussies I see at shows around here.

No problem. Peter is a great resource! He is very funny haha. I would say hatching eggs are no no because for example I only hatched 4 chicks out of these eggs. (My fault) Therefore I only had a few birds to choose from for breeders. If you buy started birds you know what your getting more so then hatching eggs and the breeder will have already made some culling decisions. That is why I got these started pullets from Cindy and Dick. They are more mature and I can already pick out faults and things I want to fix.

Ah, but the good thing about buying hatching eggs is that you get an overview of the true line, which has NOT been culled for socially unacceptable faults.This is sometimes very revealing coming from a" famous breeder". Lots of DQs out there in those gene pools. How will you know unless you see a line in it's entirety?

The pictures ya'll have shared on this thread are very nice, it makes me think of my childhood with all the beautiful birds. I'll post some pics of my RIR, Domineckers for everyone to see.
