Bobcat and Coon

Have had what I believe to be Bobcat and coons desiccate my flock. Went from 15 to 2. Has been killing it and dragging it off and haven't found where it is eating them. Had 2 that where killed in the coop and had there heads eaten off and into the ribs. One of my friends said it sounds like coons,bobcats, and a weasel. I am a trapper so have been trying to catch them with Duke #2 and cage traps. Recently got my Duke Dog proof out for coon. Will update when I get it. Have my last locked up in a cage in the pen as the cat is being smart and won't even come close when he sees the door is shut. Currently have 2 Duke #2,1 Dog Proof and a cage around my coop. Will update after checks.

That's what I think to except for the fact that there is bobcat and coon tracks coming and going from my coop.

You may have both, sound like it if you have seen tracks. However, that damage you describe is more coon. The missing birds sound more bobcat.

The thing is the coon damage has only happened twice. Once to my big buff hen and my bantam rooster. Then all my other RIR hens and buffs just disappear.

With coons in my experience will just kill to kill nothing leaves the spot where the bird died. Fox and bobcats and one mountain lion all took what they could get one at a time. I have had bears just rip pens open but never did they kill it and eat on spot. The mountain lion got me twice tell I caught him and he couldn't get out so he trapped himself and scared me to death lol good luck but i think you got a bobcat problem.

Have you heard of the "Scarecrow?" No, it's not some stuffed doll thing - it's a motion activated water jet that when turned on (like at night), will shoot a stream of water at what ever is moving - will sting the intruder but not kill it. It can be found online. I've had problems with coons and opossums - ate all my fish out of my pond. Haven't set the pond up yet but when I do, I'll be using this. A friend had the same problem, got one of these and said he hasn't had any problem since it has been in use. There are also ultra-sound deterrents you can get and they can be programmed for a particular predator - also motion activated.

Ya the most important part of that scare crow sprinkler is to remember where it is lol it works great and will scare the crap out of you if you forget about it
