thanks for the reply, my coop is open during the day and they just set up shop in there, I do keep my feed in metal cans and feed is put up at night but there is a lot on the ground (my chickens waste a lot)

Therein lies part of the problem.

You could put out less feed daily so they will eat if off the ground.
You could get a treadle feeder.
You could make one of these like I did..but I keep my feed in the coop, might not work for you if you feed outside.

You'll still have to trap to winnow down the population.
You can also try to eliminate places they can nest in/near the coop/run.

thanks aart we made 5 of these the chickens love them and I just put them in another bucket without holes at night, the sparrows avoid them during the day too which is great
