Hi, we have had a bobcat in our yard.It has taken two of our mallard ducks but has left our chickens and turkeys alone. They are protected in our state.Does anyone have any ideas. There was about a 3 wk gap between the first and second duck.

I agree with Chick Charm.....my livestock is protected above any other critter on my property. I'd take the bobcat out and wouldn't think twice about it. Good luck!

I would check with the F&G. the Game Warden would be the best place to start. he'll (or she'll) work with you where the
F&G office will just give you a run around. Be honest with him!

I'm not trying to be facetious, but I'd liken that to calling 911 when an intruder is in your home, inquiring as to what your options are.

You could check with your local game warden. We have a season on cats down here but we can deal with them out of season to defend property/livestock. Not sure how your laws are.

Update So we found out the real pest.We caught our neighbors dog in our yard two nights ago.My husband chased it off.It was acting like our yard was its yard .She was barking at us with hair standing on end like she was telling us to leave. My last two ducks and my chickens were in the yard still but I started to worrie.I went out about ten minuts after we chased the dog off and our male duck was in front of our coop calling for the female.I looked over our little hill into the neighbors yard and sure enough the two dogs were eating my duck.It had to have come back in our yard and snatched our duck.
Our neighbor has an underground electric fence to keep the dogs in.Everytime we even walk into our yard or even open our front door the dogs are set off.My hubbie called the cops and they did not do anything. We saw our neighbor throw our duck over his little ditch into the woods. My husband went down to talk to him and he told my husband that his dogs cannot leave the yard because of the electric fence.I have seen the dogs all up and down our road. What bothers me most is that he did not even bother coming and telling us about his dogs killing our ducks. Two weeks ago I was even nice enough to go over and let him know that there is a bobcat and it took our ducks. You would think he would have said something then.

You could have two predators. The bobcat wouldn't surprise me, either. Sounds like it's time for some good, sturdy fencing for your yard. If the neighbor's dogs can get in, so can other strays and predators. As far as the dogs go, call the police EVERY time they are in your yard threatening you. Honestly, the best thing would be for them to completely and mysteriously disappear. I'd suggest shooting them, but I'm guessing you're in a residential area so that's not a good idea. (I hate the thought of bullets flying to who-knows-where and potentially injuring or killing someone.) Catching them and taking them to a pound could work, but I don't want you to take a chance on getting bitten.

I would also take some pictures of the dogs in your yard so you have some proof. Sorry for your loss.
