Two copies of recessive white produce a solid white bird, so bobtail isn’t recessive white.

Could you cite your research? If it is recessive white, it does not appear to be the regular type (the type which is found in white silkies, for example). By “brown”, do you mean the eb gene? Do bobtails have one or two recessive white genes? Is this recessive white sex-linked?
