Bobtail x MF Cochin Bantams

I wouldn't use mottled because IMO why?
They are so far from MF genetically. The only thing they have that you would want is mottling.
Why lose have the genes you need and bring in others you'd have to breed out just for mottling that you already have.
I can't wrap my head around the concept.
You don’t think they have too little? I’ve had good birds in the past, but they passed away. They don’t have enough black, I was told. And others said to breed to mottled. Think the gene will just come out if I select? I’ll totally do that for a bit. Need to multiply in numbers first. All the others passed away. And you think type is okay (if you looked at the article)? One pic of a mother, two of a sweet hen, last ones are of a very promising girl. Two bad she fell weak and lethargic for a few weeks (you can tell by her wings hanging low and her pale face), but we tried literally everything besides a vet in person.

I agree they're lacking in the black and mottling department.
MF is complicated IMO.
It can get really complicated if you talk to some hardcore MF breeders and/or if your breaking down every aspect of the pattern and wanting perfection across the board.
I'm interested in your project but anything I reply with will just be opinion from my experience so take it with a grain of salt.

What is your understanding to what genes you need or want in yours?
Start there so we're on the same page.

I only know about color bases— theres Wild type, Wheaten, Partridge, Birchen, and Black (I think). Then I know some egg color genes. No idea about color color genes. Silver x red can make sexlinked, barred gene is also sexlinked. No, know barely anything about genetics. I do wish I could learn, but so hard to find anything online for free.

I want as close as I can get to this color 5F2BCBBC-0BB2-45A5-A416-493451DCC73F.jpeg
On a good typed Cochin bantam. Doesn’t have to be perfect, just pretty close.

Chase was pretty close to what I want. Just needed to be shorter, wider, have a better cushion and comb, and all his offspring have orange eyes, unlike him. In color, he could’ve had some more black and the green in his tail separated. But he was two years old when he died of some kind of tumor. Wish I had better pics of him, but I’m not gonna include ones of how bad he looked the day he passed away. Oldest is him and turkeys (taken during winter, January or December)

Only going off what I read on the original mfc thread I think they used a lot of mottled because they could get a good type there. They did have to work on breeding out the black with a lot of dark birds. The people who added in partridge had a lot trouble breeding out the smutting I think. I would Sat breed your two as much as possible and keep an eye out for whatever sq useful cochin colours you can find.

I have a nice mille fleur cock in Missouri

If you think a new male line would help, I have a nice mille fleur in Missouri.
Fertile and very sweet.
