I have bobwhite quail eggs in my incubator and a couple of hours ago I heard cherping and last night I noticed at least four eggs that had what I like to call "iceberged" or broke the shell into tiny tiny holes. This was around 8 pm maybe 9. It's 1 pm now and they have made very little progress and I'm not hearing any more cherping but I put each one of them to my ear and I heard what sounded like the babies chipping away at the membrane and or shell. I had about two or three more iceberging this morning. 8 pm (or 9) will make it 24 hours since the four iceberged. If they don't make anymore progress by 8 or 9 pm should I start chipping at the shells to help them? And I heard cherping but why are they not cherping anymore? Please help!

You should leave them alone. They will hatch when ready it usually takes 24-48 hours after they pip ( iceberged as you call it) before they zip out. Do not take them out of the incubator to listen to them. You risk having them stick to the shell by reducing temperature and humidity when you take them out to listen. Bobwhites take 23-24 days to hatch.

You also would probably have gotten a faster response if you would have posted this on the Quail forum on this site under "other backyard poultry".

I took them out for only a few seconds but we have two zipping and one of the two are almost out and there are three or four more still pipping but all are moving their beaks out of the holes they made so all is going good so far. Thank you for your help!
