You asked about the OLD world species of quail. LOL...I guess I assumed, well, that we were talking about New World Quail.
Ok...Japanese Quail, New Zealand Quail, Harlequin Quail, Chinese Quail, King Quail, the several Bush Quail and the Button Quail. I am sure there are other Old world quail, but I would have to do some research to name them all.
No, none of these species should be housed together, especially Button quail. Buttons are too tiny to be kept with most species, although some people have kept one very docile hen of a different breed in with them. Buttons can also be very aggressive to the point that you can not keep other buttons with them, and only keep them in pairs alone, male to female year round. As far as keeping roosters together or hens of these different species, it would all be trial and error...in other words, some of these types of roo quail may get along, and others might not. You would have to experiment with them. I am not all that familiar with all these species of Old World Quail.
