You go! take your time and pick out a good varmint rifle that you will enjoy shooting and won't kick you black and blue. Lots of choices out there and let us know if you need any recommendations.

You'll enjoy shooting, it really is a skill and is a lot of fun to work on.

I had to same problem! I was in my feedshed, and I had just let my chickens out and I heard one of my roosters having a fit! So I go out to the yard and they are 2 HUGE coyotes licking the chops! So I start screaming at them and yelling and they just stoud there and stared at me! We haven't gotten one yet, but I'd sure like to! Sure hope you get yours! Good luck!

I have no clue what a coyote pelt would be worth. Never considered it at all, but i don't think that will be part of my motivation. I just want to be able to be out in my property and not worry about them stalking my daughter or livestock.

Pelts were worth $10 ea. here last year I heard not many furbuyers are buying anything this year just because of the economy. I your are in fairly close range I would go with a .22LR I picked up my savage at wal-mart 10 years ago for about $115, ammo is cheap, easy to shoot, no kick, low noise, and a less messy kill. I can hit a pop can dead on from 50 feet or more with so that is my recomendation.

I have injured both shoulders in car accidents and I cannot handle the kick of a shotgun, I will just be getting a .22 most likely but it will be a nice one. We had one but it was a single shot and its being "borrowed" probably wont' get it back now.

Where I grew up there were coyote carcasses hung on all the fences...I'm not sure if it helped, but shooting a couple really did!! They didn't come around again for about five years after each shooting. Here in city limits we can't discharge a firearm at all...which I do understand, with neighbors all around, but the coyotes are thick as thieves and it would be nice to thin them out a bit.

Then there are all the deer eyeing my veggies...

Obviously coyotes killing and attacking your animals is concern, but what really concerns me above and beyond that is the fact they are coming right up onto your porch. It shows they have no fear of you and your dogs, and without that natural fear (that our ancestors instilled them with) they become a real danger to humans. They do not see you as the top predator, and in the natural order, if you are not top predator you are fair game as prey. Be careful and best wishes at re-establishing the natural order!
