Bomb at Detroit Federal building.. almost a month!

So Boyd...what is the point of this post....?

And mgw....comfortably numb is no excuse in 20111

The point of this post... lets see.... They have minimum wage security guards guarding the FBI and Homeland Security offices... The top of the top cops... And they dropped the ball in a big way.. And somehow this isn't big news? Why don't we have the best of the best guarding our FBI and HS folks? How about real police officers (sorry to any security guards out there reading this) but at least a cop would have known that suspected bomb is handled by the bomb squad....

And what else is the point?

Good points there, Boyd! ..

And, Since when did we have to have "points" to make a thread on BYC?

Boyd,
Leave the safety on, it's not worth the shot. LOL

Thanks for knowing that some of us still believe in doing right. And that's the point.

Every day I am astounded by the lack of common sense in people who make decisions
about our lives. Three months to get electric service switched ?? You didn't know that
the oil filter for my truck needed a double gasket?? No, the phone line is not out in my
house, it is in your field lines!! Is this a bomb?? I shake my head and thank God I'm old.

I don't know but Boyd made points so he's free and clear. OK if that made no sense I blame being tired.
*sheepish grin*

An actual bomb is left in a locker for a month before anyone does anything, but a 'suspicious' bag (containing a laptop) is carefully investigated by the bomb squad mere hours after it was found?
I can't believe this occurred in the same State!

The problem with that is a lot of real police officers have been laid off around the State.

Security guards with minimal training are probably cheaper.

Oh I know, and its a vicious cycle.

We have become a society that so obsessed with being politically correct we ignore warning signs from people because it may offend them for religious/ethnic/ethic reasons etc.. Profiling works, being pc gets us killed. It gets us 9/11/2001, the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber etc... everyone had a little tingle warning sign but because the person fit into this slot, of this ethnicity, and of this type, lets run the 89 year old woman through the backscatter machine and pat her down so we can feel good that we are protecting america.

Just sayin'

Boyd, people have their concerns in the wrong places all across the board, not just security. It's frustrating to see and talking about all the misguided concerns could fill a thread (and probably get it shut down, conflicting opinions and all that jazz
wink.png
).

I'm happy someone finally did something about the bomb before it turned into a tragedy, and hopefully a few people will learn to not shrug off unusual packages. I hope they have enough evidence to find whomever may have put it there, although being weeks behind who ever did it might be gone now.

Trust me, middle schoolers are far more astute and responsible about telling adults about suspicious packages, people, and writing on the wall.

is what I say and if that bomb had gone off it would have been covered up

I think I want to go live in a cave some where. My DH says people have lost their common sense and I believe him.

The question is will we learm from our mistakes........one can only hope.....

"We are in the process of creating what deserves to be called the idiot culture. Not an idiot sub-culture, which every society has bubbling beneath the surface and which can provide harmless fun; but the culture itself. For the first time, the weird and the stupid and the coarse are becoming our cultural norm, even our cultural ideal."
