Aster gathered fresh air into her lungs before diving into the icy water below. She waited a moment to allow her vision to adjust but thankfully the lanterns of the ship casted an orange glow over the dark surface of the water. Aster dove beneath the ship, and found the captain and creature there. The captain was alive, held by the creature's tentacles, but she couldn't say how long it be before the creature ate him. Aster pulled on the rope hard, twice, and swam closer to the creature's head to gain his attention.
Jack pushed the anchor over bored This better work!(Hey, octopus/ squid skin is pretty rubbery and tough. Splinters of ship won't cut it. Literally. XD)
The captain watched the human pull herself toward him, just as his vision started to blur with little black dots. He had a pen-knife in his pocket. If only he could reach it. His lungs screamed for air. He thrashed and squirmed until he could get a bite on the arm. He clamped down. Hard.
The beast loosened its grip just enough for him to pull the knife out, but not enough to open it. He let it fall just as the tentacle squeezed out the lat of his air.
